Noise... Out & About

Saint Paul Street Gallery

Inspiration

Loved this piece. Creates a visual noise that disturbs my visual. A simple concept done well.

Out & About

Working with Matt Lawson. With the idea of capturing interesting sounds from a Electrical Tower we quickly found out that being directly a the bottom of the tower was not going to produce the desired effects expected.

So by getting level with the electrical wires we discovered a much more desirable result. We also did some experiments such as walking away and towards the mic, liquid on metal and a mixture of card, shells and glass on pavement.

Lecture Hall...Out & About

Capturing lecture sounds

Wanted to see how my I phone would catch the hustle and bustle of entrance and exit of students in the hall which my lecture is held. Hoped to find some interesting samples.

Location Scouting...Out & About

On the look out for locations to capture sound and trying to discover a concept for the project put forth.

Waiatarua. The Maori word for song of two waters.

Waiatarua Reserve seemed to me to be the perfect location to capture the sounds of nature. It is well known for its reputation as an ideal spot for dog walkers, Its swamp lands and ponds which are home to a range of birds. It is surrounded by towering trees which in the mornings and evenings are open to a choir of insects and birds alike.

My interest will be the discovery of unusual combinations of its sounds and desphypering its textures. By focusing on specific interests in the recordings I will hopefully open up many possibilities for interpretation. Helping me to concept and mold a way of presentation that will justify my choices and direction of the project.

It Begins

Emerging Practices... ?

I'm putting this work created by my lecturer Clinton Watkins. I saw this a while ago in a art gallery in Auckland Two Rooms Gallery. My partner and I were hypnotised not just by it's particular humming of sound but also its humming of colors.

I think this is probably the best example of what the paper actually consists of.
